Energy free for better environment

The 3rd training of the Erasmus+ funded project Renewable Energy Sources for Safe Future, called Energy free for better environment, was organized by University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, between 27th of February – 3rd of March, 2023 in Bucharest, Romania.

The meeting room was at POLITEHNICA Library Building (Splaiul Independentei nr. 313), the 2nd floor – room 2.2. The activities started each day at 10 in the morning and ended in the afternoon depending of the duration of the visits in laboratories.

Day 1:
In the first day the participants were welcomed with gifts and also we had coffee breaks on each day. These were covered from the management money.
The welcome gift consisted of materials containing the name and logos of the project: T-shirt, mug, notebook and pen.

After the welcome meeting, the participants were presented with the project activity and their schedule for the week at UPB. They will visit the presented laboratories and will also be introduced to our best research results.

After getting to know each other and some details about the sending organizations, the participants were invited to the first laboratory at the Transportation Faculty, walking through the campus, showing the main buildings and the facilities of the University.

At the presentation that contained both theoretical information and practical presentation,
the participants could see how the car engine function and what is different in an electrical or hybrid car engine.

After the participants were answered all their questions, they went to see the results of the University regarding the Renewable Energy Toolkit and were
presented the video recorded as a result of the toolkit.

Day 2:
In the second day, the participants understand better the types of renewable energy through a presentation and went later for a visit in Bucharest.
The places they visit were the National Village Museum, the Old Center and the lunch was at the traditional restaurant Caru cu Bere.
For the comfort of the participants, the project manager booked a minibus to take us around in the city.

Day 3:
The third day was the 1st of March, so our participants were given a clue of the traditions Romanians have in this day – the “Martisor”.

After enjoying a coffee, the participants assisted at several presentations at the Energetics Faculty:

  • Using biomass from waste for electrical energy production with low emissions of CO2 – presentation & practical work.
Participants seen devices that measure the quality of the air, and were able to perform themselves such a measurement.

They also were invited to a unique laboratory in Romania where researchers patent new methods and techniques to transform biomass into energy.

In the same day, it was a visit and a presentation at the green house (using 100% renewable energy). Though looking like a normal house, the passive house is 100% independent. Participants were shown the technical room and were given details on how to do something similar in their countries.

The last visit on the first on March was at the cogeneration plant – a real electricity producer plant. Participants were given a presentation on the
classical type of energy as the transition from traditional energy sources to renewable sources – it is an important topic today.

Day 4:

Participants discussed about the benefits of energy efficiency and assisted at two lectures:
European Sustainability in the context of circular economy
And
Decentralized Power System

After the lectures, the participants went to our research building and were given other 3 presentations and together with demonstrations:

– How to test and diminish the pollution
– 3D printing of human organs from advanced polymer materials
– Applications using Robots

Day 5:

In the last day, we had discussion on how each of us could contribute to energy conservation. This presentation leaded to new ideas regarding circular economy in various sectors.

The last activity of the day and also of the week was the certificate ceremony.

The participants enjoyed the project in Bucharest and offered very good feedback.
